The return of Afternoon Tea Club

The ever-popular Afternoon Tea Club has returned to one of the town's most loved tea rooms, The Tea House.

This will be held on the final Sunday of every month and each time will feature a new set menu designed to tantalise your taste buds. This isn't just your typical, run-of-the-mill afternoon tea though, as you can expect to see some unusual flavours each time.

July's menu consisted of egg and pesto, Coronation chicken, hummus and grilled pepper, cream cheese and cucumber sandwiches, a lemon meringue scone, a Sun Dried Tomato and Feta scone, either a cherry and almond cake, a raspberry and Nutella or gooey caramel brownie, and unlimited tea or coffee.

But what makes this different from regular afternoon tea? It's also served up with a set cocktail, made with or without alcohol! For £20 per person, that sounds like the perfect way to spend a Sunday.

Owner, Carli-Jayne McNaught, opened The Tea House (previously known as The Olde Young Tea House) back in 2011, and since then, it has flourished into somewhat of a must-visit hot spot in Middlesbrough.

Not only does it boast over 100 different types of tea, homemade cakes and the unique Afternoon Tea Club, but in 2014, it was voted as the Nation's Favourite Independent Business. Carli says, "there were over 20,000 votes cast and it went down to a four-way tie break," but her tea shop came out on top.

Since then, the tea room has expanded and is now able to comfortably seat around 32 people. Carli also opened Hit The Bar, a new music and drinks venue in the Middlehaven area, and released her own beer with Cameron's Brewery. She managed to achieve all of this under the age of 30, making her a truly outstanding young entrepreneur.

You can find The Tea House at 86-88 Grange Rd, Middlesbrough, TS1 2LS. Take a look at their Facebook for more details on the Afternoon Tea Club and mouth-watering photos of cake.
