The North East Makeup Academy (or NEMUA) will be putting on a free taster course in October which is designed to give an insight into the hair and beauty sector.
Based on Middlesbrough's Corporation Road, the academy boasts a professional salon with teaching from highly skilled hair and beauty artists that have the experience of turning their passions into a business.
The free course will be the Level 1 Certificate in Occupational Studies from the awarding body NCFE which is an accredited and recognised course in the industry, and will open up opportunities to progress on to Level 2 and 3.
It will be for 4 days per week from 9.30am to 3pm and held over 4 weeks starting October 2018. During the course, you will learn the basics of applying makeup, nail application, basics in styling men or womens hair and applying temporary hair colour. It will mainly be a practical, hands on course and will help to build a portfolio of evidence to meet the criteria of the awarding body.
However, if this free course doesn't take your fancy, there are plenty of other courses that you can pay to take part in. From pro artistry to special effects makeup, from body waxing to eye enhancement, the academy has it all!
While it may seem like the academy is all about getting to play with makeup, the concept at its core is to help people break out of the 9-5 and start their own businesses.
Donna Smith said, "After the two week intensive course, learning everything from the basics of makeup application to specific bridal work with a pro photo shoot to top it off, I embarked on my new makeup artistry career. After attending a business course that was recommended by Lisa, I was able to set up my business including bank account, insurances, marking materials etc. One year later I have built up a successful part time business that I hope will develop into full time this coming year."
Gemma Rimmington said, "We learnt something new every day and pieced all of our new skills together bit by bit until we were able to confidently complete a full professional looking make up application. Lisa is a fabulous trainer who kept each day light hearted and fun yet professional and even better I’ve made some lovely friends from my course group and we keep in touch regularly supporting each other. I’m booking on to the next pro course at the end of the year and can’t wait! This course has literally changed my life path. Thanks to Lisa and NEMUA I am now working regularly doing make up for bridal parties, special occasions and proms. I’m meeting new people, earning money and building my confidence and business skills all the time."
These are just a couple of the testimonials that NEMUA has received, showing that they have a great track record of helping people to build the careers they want.
To be eligible for this free course, you must be over 19 years old, either receiving benefits (this will not affect your benefits) or earning less than £15,000 per annum.
